When art, architecture and nature live together in harmony

Japanese artist Rei Naito and architect Ryue Nishizawa, founder of the prestigious architecture studio SANAA in Tokyo, are responsible of creating the spectacular Teshima Art Museum. To say that it is an authentic marvel is an understatement.

The Teshima Art Museum resembles a water droplet at the moment of landing and it is located in the corner of a rice terrace on the the island of Teshima overlooking the Seto Inland Sea. The museum consists of a concrete shell, devoid of pillars, coving a space with two oval openings. These openings allow wind, sounds and light of the world outside into this organic space where nature and architecture intimately interconnect.

In the interior space, water continuously springs from the ground, sliding on the floor as if the tiny droplets were alive. It is an incredibly peaceful place full of sensitivity which invites anyone to meditate about nature’s beauty and our paper within it.
