In Hararibagh region, in norteastern India, women paint intrincated patterns in their huts. Stethically, they are something between of rupestrian art and floral designs. They are painted as a celebration in marriages season but they are washed away year after year by the monsoons, because mineral pigments (mainly manganese and clay) are easily dissolved.
However, economy shifts in the area make it difficult for women to devote to their art. This was the reason why L’Aviva Home, a New York studio decided to associate with local artists and selling fabrics and wallpapper inspired in the patterns that, year after year, the Hararibagh women paint in their homes.
This is a unique way to contribute to make their activity sustanable but also to spread it around the world.
