Alvar Aalto, architecture in style

septimo

Today we want to dedicate the article of inspiration to one of the architects who inspire us most: Alvar Aalto, one of the great masters of the heroic period of the Modern Movement together with Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Gropius. Aalto was born in Finland in 1898 and he defined his way of projecting with these words: “The true functionalism of architecture must be reflected mainly in its functionality from the human point of view. Technical functionalism can not define architecture. ”

On the other hand, for Aalto, painting and architecture influenced each other. He was influenced by painters Paul Cézanne and Fernand Léger, of whom he was a friend. Aalto drew, painted and sculpted throughout his life. “The three art forms of architecture, painting and scupulture are linked to one another in that they are all manifestations of the human spirit based on matter”. In fact in a description of his masterpiece, the Villa Mairea in Noormarkku, 1938-1939, Aalto confessed. “In this building the designers sought to apply a special concept connected with modern painting.” An important fact is that Aalto in his design process he practiced painting and sculpture, he said: “The paintings and sculptures are a part of my method of work, for which I am not willing to see them separately from me Architecture, as if they could express something beyond this. These are for me branches of the same tree of which the trunk is Architecture. ”
